make_it_easier1. Oral sedation involves a sedative such as Valium or Halcion administered in the form of a pill. It’s a fairly straightforward way of overcoming your fear. The medication makes you feel drowsy – like you are half asleep. You may not have any memory of your treatment.

Because of the effects of the medication, you’ll need a friend or family member to take you home after your appointment. Until the drowsiness wears off, you won’t be able to drive safely or work effectively.

2. Nitrous oxide – aka laughing gas – is a safe and effective form of sedation that’s inhaled through a mask. It makes you feel light-headed and calm, but it won’t make you feel drowsy. The effects wear off quickly, allowing you to return to your day after your treatment.
